Transfer duties are a cantonal tax levied upon the sale of a property. The rate varies considerably between cantons.

Examples of rates in French-speaking Switzerland: - Geneva: 3% of the sale price (including 1.3% land registry fees) - Vaud: 3.3% of the sale price - Valais: 1.5% of the sale price - Fribourg: 1.5% of the sale price - Neuchatel: 3.3% of the sale price - Jura: 2.2% of the sale price

Transfer duties are generally borne by the buyer and must be budgeted for in addition to equity.
